Thai Visa Information
For all arrivals, Thailand requires a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after arrival.
Nationals of many countries including the USA, UK, South Africa, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and most of Europe do not require a visa. If arriving by air in Thailand, you will be granted 30 days entry into the Kingdom, and if arriving overland this is just 15 days. The following countries do not require a visa to enter Thailand:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America and Vietnam.
If the 30 days given without a visa is not enough for you, then you can apply a tourist visa which is valid for 60 days but you will need to get issued in advance through a Thai Embassy or consulate. Once issued, the visa must be used (started) within 90 days of issue. The visa is only a single entry visa and even if you have days remaining when you leave, these are invalidated once you leave the country.
Temporary Tourist Visa - Visa on Arrival
For nationals of countries not exempted from visas (list above is exempt), it is possible to apply for visas at the immigration checkpoints for the purpose of tourism for a period not exceeding 15 days. This applies for nationals of the following countries:
Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Czech, Estonia, Hungary, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Maldives, Mauritius, Oman, Poland, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Taiwan and Ukraine.
Renewing Your Thai Visa:
Your visa can be renewed through the immigration offices, and is often a service provided by travel agencies on the ground.
Overstaying Your Visa
The Thai authorities do not like people over-staying their visas, and there is a 500 baht per day fine payable as you leave the country.
